Motherhood Portrait Sessions

As a mom myself, I know that it's easy to make excuses for not being in photos.  A bad hair day, no makeup, not dressed for the occasion, need to lose some weight.  I have heard these excuses, and said them myself so many times.  As moms, we are often the ones taking the pictures of our family, and unless it's a "selfie", we may not have many photos of ourselves with our kids.  Trust me, this is something your kids need from you.  They need you to be in those photos with them.  They will see the love you have for them, the connections your family has at this point in their lives and someday they will look back and have those images to look back on, when the actual memories may have faded a bit.

I don't often share my own story with clients.  I tell them how important it is to be in these photos but not why I feel it's so important because I would never want anyone to think that I would be using my tragic loss to in some way profit.  I do think it is a great example of the importance of photos and that's why I am sharing here.  When I was 5, my mother was killed in a car accident.  Luckily, she loved photos and had portraits of myself and my sister taken very often in our first couple of years.  She also, on two occasions had professional photos of herself with us.  My favorites are the ones that were taken less than a year before she died.  They were taken at a local park in the fall.  There are photos of the three of us just being together.  They are fun and sweet photos, and it's so obvious from those photos how much she loved us.  Because I was so little, I don't have many memories of my mom, but I do have these photos, and I will cherish them forever.   THIS is the reason I push my clients to be in the shots with their kids.  This is why I feel so passionately about Motherhood sessions.

Motherhood sessions are an opportunity for moms to love on their kids and just show the bond between them and her kids, no matter their age.  I offer Motherhood sessions at any time throughout the year, but I am offering special Motherhood Mini sessions throughout the month of April, so galleries will be sent out before Mother's day. These sessions are studio sessions, and include a half hour session and 10 digital images.

Here are some shots from a recent Motherhood Session...
