It's time for a little honesty... since I first decided to start my own business, I have educated myself on everything from how to set up a website, and what SEO is, to the best kinds of lighting and all the locations in the area that do or don't charge admission for photo shoots and many, many other things. There has been a lot to learn. I have loved every minute of it (almost), but it's been more than a part time job, that's for sure!!! The toughest part of starting a business for me has been pricing. I have researched prices of other local photographers, and my prices have always been slightly lower than some of the better ones. I honestly feel like my work, and what I deliver is better than what many out there are producing, and therefore, I haven't wanted to drop too low in my price. It's funny, I had someone tell me one day that my prices were too high and the very next day another person told me that she paid 5 times what I was charging for newborn sessions and that I should raise my prices. So the feedback has been conflicting. I am by no means trying to knock other photographers, but I truly believe, "you get what you pay for". I have invested in premium equipment and software. I go above and beyond to set up the location and follow through with great images. It has been amazing to get positive feedback from very talented photographers from around the World on Instagram.
Unfortunately, things have been going slower than I had hoped. As we have started to get into the busy season, I just lowered my prices. I am hopeful that people will do their research, and not only look at the price point, but the actual images that are being produced. I believe I now fall well below what other photographers are charging for most sessions, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make to get my name out there. This is honestly not about the money for me, but I also do not want to give my work away. What I do goes far beyond the 1 hour that we shoot. Being a professional involves planning, and then following through with hours of editing.
I love doing this. I am excited by it, and look forward to it. I want to not only work with new clients, but have them become "regulars" and make them so happy that they are shouting my name from the rooftops to all their friends and family. So... please take a few minutes and check out my "investments/packages" tab to see what my packages look like. If you're interested in setting up a session, let me know!
